Once upon a time i overheard two friends arguing why almost all terrorists attacks are being perpetrated by Muslims. The other being a Muslim felt attacked and so replied 'are you trying to say that all Muslims are terrorists'? No answered his friend, I rather mean , 'why is it that all terrorists are muslims'. My input is this, it is either that there is something wrong with the religion or there is something wrong with some of its teachers. And, for all that has been proven, nothing is wrong with Islam and I believe this to be true. However, there is a fundamental question mark on the method of propagation of faith by few of its teachers. Does this destroy the religion? Absolutely No. Does it hover a big question mark over Muslims, of course Yes. The question of why almost all terrorists are Muslims.
What you see below is the picture of the most recent terror attack by a 29 year old man identified as Taimur Abdulwahab al-Abdaly. Abdulwahab tried to set off a car bomb packed with gas canisters in a busy shopping street in Stockholm. This young man with a wife and children have enjoyed asylum in Europe and yet his belief did not convince him that ingratitude is worse than betrayal, yet he committed both in the name of religion.
This is one of the numerous of this kind of attacks by people who feel aggrieved by their egocentric perception of maltreatment of their people by others.
It is actions like this that made me ask if Jihad is truly fighting God's fight or rather fighting to protect our selfish interest and interests of our misguided mentors. Of course there always have been reasons for attacks of this kind but the question is, how justified are these reasons.
The Qur'an instructs thus:
'Fight in the cause of God those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for God loves not transgressors. And slay them wherever you catch them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter... But if they cease, God is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful... If they cease, let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppression" (Qur'an 2:191).
From the above excepts, it's obvious that prophet Mohammad only assented to self defence in case of attack and restraint when the object of attack is driven away. Is that the case in this case and similar ones. The answer is left for all of us.
If Abdulwahab has succeeded, it would have been that he achieved the will of Allah but, would it have really been so? what about a woman he made a widow and children he made fatherless? what is his justification for such a selfish pursuit. If it is such a good will of God, why is it that they that indulge in this masked activity do not discuss it over the dinner table with their families? why do they hide the weapon they carry?
Mosques are built in open places and people worship in them without hiding because they believe in the God who believes in them, why do people who do the will of God act under cover if truly it is the will of God?
The world needs love more than it needs religious identity and unless we realize that we are one and so are responsible for each other, even if God comes today he will disown us.
One Love and one Heart is all we need
