In what seems like Maradona's 'hand of god' the Nigeria's chief election officer Mr Jaga cancelled election half way. the cancelling of the election is not the real issue but the reason given.
This election has been waited for since 2007 and it has been in direct focus since the past 8 months yet there was every reasonable reason to cancel it mid way and not even few days before. The population of legible voters did not grow overnight as to justify the last minute action yet we have every reason or rather we are provided with enough reason to understand the situation.
Something like this is not new in Nigeria, the only thing new about it is the integrity of the umpire. A lot of people have voiced their belief that their will be a free and fair election when it eventually takes place, well, i told a friend to wait and see. One thing that is impossible in Nigeria today is not even the check of corruption but to understand the part our rigging pays in sinking our general moral, intellectual and social consciousness.
Some news media have even suggested loss of majority of votes casted by the ruling party as the reason for the abrupt cancellation, in direct contrast to the position taken by the umpire. I do not buy any of these for now. Let us 'sidon dey look'.
I don't wish to talk further on this, I will come again after April 16 and I wish i am proven wrong by then.
